I know I sure am.  With the end of the NBA season, there just doesn't seem to be much left on TV to keep you entertained until the NFL rolls around.  Trying to stay entertained, I was watching ESPN and some show about Golf, then Tennis, then Curling..  You get my point, not even ESPN can save the day.   Then I saw the ad for  SkoreIt.com.

Oh yeah!  Penny Auctions are great source of entertainment.  Something to tie you over until football season.  Have you tried any new sites popping up?

PennyWizard.com - New site running Bargains and Fun's  Script with many features such as Blind Auctions, Nailbiter Auctions, Bid Wizard and the Power Wizard.  Mostly gift cards being auctioned off with some bid packs.

JagBidz.com -  Opened about 4 months ago, but seem to be very favorable to the Forum community.  They have had some issues with growth and have been up and down frequently.  When they were up though, reviews have been stellar.

firearmsauction.org -  Not sure what to think about this site that sells guns, accessories, hunting equipment, and such.  I'm sure there is value and a market for it.

frogeebidz.com -  Is  a mostly timerless reserve site that has many products from gift cards to kindles.  Tried registering, and there were issues with phone number requirements.  They have some weekly tournament auctions similar to seat auctions, but since registration was difficult, I didn't get to check out how that works.

PennyBuster.com - Just opened this past week, and has many gift card auctions running.

Along with those, there are a lot of site doing some re-tooling, streamlining and script modifications. Below are a couple sites with noticable mods in the works.

Quibids.com   has added some new streamlined design and auction history tools, tables giving it more transparency to the end users and bidders.  Now members can do some detailed reserach before they bid on the site.

Musibids.com  appears to be taking a short respit to add new features, and re-skinning of the Your-PA Script.  They are currently hosting some charity auctions where the value of each bid plus .50 will be donated to the charities of the auction. Winner pays the ended auction price, and Musibids.com will match and donate the ended auction price as well.

So go out and have some fun playing penny auctions. But remember to do your homework and save some green on great prizes.

boredPenny auctions burst onto the scene a few years ago and seemed to explode in daily traffic and announcements of new site openings. Lately it appears that less new sites are opening each week and a look at traffic stats for many of the popular sites for penny auction traffic show a clear decline. Does this mean that people are losing interest in this competative shopping style, or have their habits just changed?

The pioneer penny auction forum, PennyAuctionWatch™ welcomed 49,000 monthly visitors in July of 2011, but only saw a little over 10,000 in the month of April 2012 according to Compete.com. Popular penny auction site Beezid.com dropped from over 700,000 visitors in July of 2011 to just above 200,000 in April of 2012. These dropping traffic trends seem to repeat on nearly every penny auction related site that we reviewed using Compete's traffic numbers.

So, where has all of the penny auction traffic gone? Well at least one site has figured out the answer to this question. Quibids.com has exploded with new growth, while many other penny auction related sites have vanished. Quibids.com is seeing more than 6 million visitors per month, up from the 4 million that visited Quibids.com in July of 2011.

Quibids.com has also just announced that they are in the running for the 2012 Stevies Award for the fastest growing tech company employing up to 2,500 people. How does Quibids do it many wonder? Is it the 170,000 plus fans of the site on Facebook, their Quibids blog which is updated nearly everyday, or is it the multitude of products offered in their continuous auction offerings? We're willing to bet its all of that combined with a very effective advertising plan and marketing budget. Nearly every Google search for penny auction related terms will always reveal a Quibids sponsored link on the page. Clearly they are dedicated to a constant advertising plan that is certainly paying dividends in daily traffic to the site.

So what about the penny auction "satelite" sites, such as PennyAuctionWatch™, PennyBurners, PennyAuctionList and even PennyAuctionHelp? Why is the penny auction traffic to these sites falling so clearly? Our answer is Facebook. What once was discussed in open forum sites has now moved into the unmoderated, unrestricted world of social sharing where every second penny auction bidders are posting about auction wins, auctions of interest and tales of defeat. The problem, from our perspective, with this constant stream of social chatter is that there is no lingering information from which interested parties can find useful information about the penny auction industry. Penny auction bidders who merely post on Facebook indicating their bad experience with a penny auction site will likely not be seen two months from now when someone is looking to join that particular penny auction site.

questionmarkHow do perspective penny auction owners find information on the best penny auction scripts, hosting, auction styles and products when there are no searchable discussions for them to review before jumping into the fire?

Where will new penny auction bidders find real discussions and reviews about penny auction sites they are considering?

How do we balance the desire for instant chat with the need for well thought out posts containing useful information?

Is the penny auction industry in a decline, or just in transition?

Good questions all, only time will provide us with the answers!

Feel free to stop by the penny auction forum and share your thoughts!

IBid2Save, a licensed auction firm that launched October 16th, 2011, does a lot of promoting on how you can get a great deal on their site.  The question though, is there any deals to be had.  They have a very nice web presence, clean interface and well running script whose timers are very accurate.  They pride themselves also on their User Account dashboard and statistics panel, that has some very extensive charts, and graphs that show how much money one has saved based on the return on investment (ROI) numbers.  But do these numbers really pan out?

This bidder is very skeptical as to how much has been saved, even though they report that I have. Let's look at the bid pack(35,50,75,100,250,500,1000) prices which have bids at 60 cents each which is pretty competitive in the penny auction market.  So I bought the conservative bidpack of 35 and started my journey.

As I looked for an auction, I found some $20 gift cards, which were a couple days off, and had some pricier shipping than I've seen on other site, $4.99.  But I though if I can get that for half my bids, then I should make out about 50-60% off which is respectable.  As the auctions count down, I see the bidding going crazy on the bid butler. Hundreds and hundreds of bids placed on this auction. And it's taking forever as the bid butler works a bit differently than a lot of sites.  You put your bids in the butler and it just takes off.  No control on price range.  Curious to the odd and crazy bidding, I found out that Ibid2save gives out some crazy amount of promotional bids. In fact all the auctions have promobids attached.  FREE BIDS are AWESOME!  Right?  Wrong....

IBid2Save has a BuyItNow option on their auctions, but promo bids don't count toward the BIN price when placed on an item. Here's the  twist and what is wrong with IBid2Save.  Let's analzye an auction:

http://www.ibid2save.com/auctions/8gbmicromemory-1139534

1.  Auctions that have Promo Bids Attached(most of them)  with an item actually increase the value of the auction in IBid2Save's logic.  So a 8Gb SD Card that has MSRP of $45.00 may have 40 Promo bids attached and those raise the Auction's value to $124.00.  So you pay the final auction price and shipping which is about $7.99.  TONS OF SAVINGS.... Well no.

2.  Remember those promo bids are worth nothing on your next auction toward BIN.  They are good to raise the value of the auction, but not usable on BIN?  How much more value is being placed on those bids in this auction?  40 bids @ .60 per bid (if you bought a bidpack) should be $24.00 and Ibid2Save raised the auction value almost $80.00 or $2.00 per bid.

3.  Next, you will see is where the stretch in the term savings is getting really out of hand.  Unlike all other Penny Auction sites that have a Shipping Fee,  IBid2Ssave has another "Auction Fee" which is 10% of the auction value as IBid2Save see that value from above.  So this 8Gb SD card has a shipping fee of $7.99  and an auction fee of $4.99.  $12.98 for this item, and you get 40 promo bids.  Ok. the $4.99 is not 10% of the IB2S value listed in this auction. This is an exception, and probably an error on their part.  Most items are 10% for Auction fee.

4.  Lastly, a quick check of Amazon shows that this item is sold for $4.29, almost a 3rd of the price of the IB2S AuctionFee + ShippingFee.

When you add it all up, you end up with a bunch more Promo Bids that don't buy you much more because every auction has promo bids which inflate the auction price and can't be used toward BIN.  There are almost always enough promo bids used to  inflate the  auction price so that the 10% Auction fee is higher than what you can buy items at retail.  Any items where this is not the case, there are so many bidders placing bids, that the final auction price will take the value over retail as well.  Even with only 1 bid placed on the auctions.

You would be nuts to buy any bids at their .60 per bid price. You can get promo bids by liking them on Facebook, participating in some of their many offers from affiliate partners.  Get a few promo bids, and place it on any promo bid auction, which deflates the bid price to about .06 per bid when you pay the auction fee on those auctions.

IBID2SAVE.... You be the judge!

Remember folks.. Do your homework before you bid.

Then buy the item at Amazon!
